Chery Malaysia has launched the ‘Great Year-End Lucky Draw’ campaign, providing new Chery customers with the opportunity to try their luck at winning prizes worth more than RM150,000.
The campaign is is part of Chery Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional value and experiences to its customers.
“Many shoppers often look forward to December to shop and celebrate their holidays with friends and family.

Running from December 1-31, the Great Year-End Lucky Draw campaign is open to customers who have purchased and registered their new Chery vehicles during the campaign period.
Eligible customers stand a chance to win prizes worth more than RM150,000, including a brand-new Omoda 5 as the grand prize, along with household appliances, video game consoles, and shopping vouchers.
Chery Malaysia is also offering special promotions on across its vehicle lineup. Customers can enjoy savings of up to RM13,000 on the Omoda 5, while the Omoda E5 offers savings of up to RM11,000.
The Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro offer savings of up to RM4,000 and RM15,000, respectively.
The Omoda E5 comes with a seven-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty, and an eight-year/160,000 km drive unit warranty.
Additionally, Chery Malaysia also offers a one-to-one exchange if the battery’s state of health falls below 70% during the warranty period.
The Omoda 5, Tiggo 7 Pro, and Tiggo 8 Pro are provided with a comprehensive seven-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, along with complimentary five years of labour service.
Chery Auto Malaysia has announced that it has commenced local assembly operations for the Chery Omoda E5, eight months after it was launched in CBU form. The first unit of the EV has rolled off the production line at the Inokom Plant in Kulim, Kedah.
The accomplishment demonstrates Chery’s commitment to improving local manufacturing capabilities, promoting Malaysia’s industrial growth, and contributing to the country’s transition to a sustainable, electrified automotive future.
The Omoda E5 is the Chery’s fourth vehicle to be assembled in the country, following the Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro, and Omoda 5.
“By assembling our cars locally, it not only allows us to provide more competitive pricing but also signifies Chery’s long-term commitment in Malaysia, fostering job creation and skill development within the local workforce,” said Leo Chen, President of Chery Auto Malaysia.
Leo Chen added that the initiative is in-line with the government’s policy of localisation compliance and will support and assist Malaysia to become a regional hub for electric vehicles.
Dato’ Jeffri Salim Davidson, Group Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Berhad said the significant milestone reflects the strengthening partnership and shared vision between Sime Darby and Chery.

During the line-off event YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry said, “Chery should be congratulated for the fact that 99% of their assembly workforce here are Malaysians. The industrialisation of Malaysia must mean better jobs and better pay for Malaysians, not more jobs for unskilled foreign workers. Whenever possible, we should automate more and use more technology, instead of hiring unskilled foreign workers.”
He added that, as of 30 September 2024, there were 32,543 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) registered on Malaysian roads. However, 98% of these BEVs are imported as Completely Built-Up (CBU) units.
“With this line-off ceremony, Chery joins the ranks of brands assembling EVs in Malaysia, marking a significant advancement in localizing electric vehicle production.
“Localising as much as possible in terms of manufacturing of vehicles has a balance of payment dimension. In 2023, the automotive sector recorded a total import value of RM62.14 billion, while total export value was RM18.01 billion,” said YB Liew.
The mid-size pickup truck segment is set to be enlivened by the arrival of a new contender from mainland China.
In conjunction with the Chery International User Summit held in Wuhu, Chery showcased a prototype model of the pickup truck known by the codename KP11.
At first glance, one might assume that the Chery KP11 is a model infused with various design elements from well-known pickup trucks.
For example, the front end features layered main headlight designs with L-shaped daytime running lights, reminiscent of the new Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck.
Meanwhile, Ford pickup truck elements can be observed through the front grille structure with a prominent CHERY wordmark, the use of blue color, rear lights, and the presence of side step bars on the rear bumper.
To further accentuate the versatile character of this pickup truck, Chery has incorporated various camping accessories, including a rack on the rear bed and a rooftop tent.
According to local media reports, the Chery KP11 is expected to be offered with a choice of a 2.4-liter turbo petrol engine with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configuration or a range extender version.
The Chery KP11 is set to be launched in the Asia-Pacific, South America, and Europe markets next year, joining the already competitive pickup truck segment populated with models such as the Ford Ranger, GWM Cannon, Mazda BT-50, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara, and Toyota Hilux.
Chery Malaysia has announced the opening of its new showroom and service center located at Temasya Glenmarie, Shah Alam.
Operated by Joystar Auto Sdn Bhd, the 3S facility spans 3,090 square meters and features nine service bays managed by trained Chery technicians.
Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Auto Malaysia said, “Glenmarie is not only located in the heart of Selangor but is also home to some of the most renowned automotive brands. As announced back in June, Chery Malaysia has presented its rewards to the Malaysian Olympic athletes who brought home medals from the recently concluded Paris Olympics.
The national men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who clinched bronze medals in the tournament, each received a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.

The SUV in question is the Chery Tiggo 7 Sport, and according to media reports from Mainland China, this model has already arrived in several showrooms ahead of its official launch scheduled for September.
From the front view, the Chery Tiggo 7 Sport presents a design inspired by the British off-road SUV, particularly in the grille, air intake openings, and the presence of a skid plate.
It is understood that the daytime running light unit also resembles the structure found on the Range Rover Evoque.

The current ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) covering 40.00 points of the overall score, and Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist Technology (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) each contributing 20.00 points of the overall score.
The Chery OMODA 5 is the first model under the Chery brand to be evaluated by the ASEAN NCAP. In this assessment, the OMODA 5 demonstrated a strong commitment to vehicle safety, achieving a total score of 88.64 points and earning a prestigious 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating.
The breakdown includes 36.77 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 17.36 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 19.51 points for Safety Assist (SA), and 15.00 points for the Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category.
Highlights of the Chery OMODA 5’s Safety Performance:
Frontal Impact: The OMODA 5 successfully passed the ASEAN NCAP frontal collision test, which simulates a crash where the car hits a barrier at 64 km/h with a partial front impact. In the test, dummies representing an average adult male are placed in the driver and front passenger seats, while two child dummies—a 3-year-old and a 1.5-year-old— are secured in the back seats. This test confirmed that the vehicle provides effective protection for the driver, front passenger, and children in the event of a collision.
Side Impact Test: The OMODA 5 successfully passed the ASEAN NCAP side impact test, which evaluates how well it protects occupants during a side collision. In this test, amoving barrier hits the side of the vehicle at 50 km/h. A dummy representing an adult driver is placed in the front seat, while two child dummies—a 3-year-old and a 1.5-year-old—are seated in the back. The results confirmed that the vehicle provides strong protection for the driver and child passengers in the event of a side impact collision.
Pedestrian Protection Test: The Chery OMODA 5 also received top score in pedestrian protection, a critical aspect of the ASEAN NCAP evaluation, ensuring the safety of all road users.

IT has been a year since the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro officially entered the Malaysian market. Although we have just received a test unit for evaluation, this segment-D SUV is not unfamiliar to Engear, as we previously conducted a brief test drive when Chery first arrived in Malaysia at the end of 2022.
Since then, for some reason, we focused on the Omoda 5 and Omoda E5. However, it is certainly not too late to thoroughly test the Tiggo 8 Pro. In fact, until now, we still receive inquiries about it, whether through social media DMs or during coffee shop conversations.
Attractive package, worth it?
One of the main attractions that led you to include the Tiggo 8 Pro on your list is its appealing price. It’s “only” RM159,800 for a seven-seater segment-D SUV.
And it certainly doesn’t feel cheap at all. You get high-end features such as a 2.0-liter turbo engine, three driving modes, full LED front and rear lights, 19-inch rims, a pair of 24.6-inch wide display panels with two screens, wood and chrome trim, leather seats, electronic gear knob, Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, and a full ADAS package.
Not only that, everything you can see and touch feels premium and is worth its price, such as the wood and chrome trim on the dashboard and door panels, and switches and buttons with satisfying movements, and interior lighting.
If you were to scrutinize the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro in detail and later told someone that it was worth RM240,000, they might still believe it.
Not satisfied with that, the Tiggo 8 Pro can be equipped with automatic side steps for an additional RM2,999. These steps open automatically every time you open the door, just like in a Range Rover, which costs three or four times as much.
This is the cheapest non-national segment-D SUV, even cheaper than some segment-C SUVs. This makes the writer wonder how they can sell it at this price. Is there no profit at all?
Brand perception
However, it cannot be denied that there is a significant issue that balances the value offered above, that is brand perception.
We all know where Chery comes from, and if you are of the same age as the writer, growing up listening to Limp Bizkit and wearing Adidas Superstar on the weekends, you would certainly know that this is not Chery’s first time in Malaysia.
However, you must know that industrialization in China has progressed rapidly. They started later than Malaysia, but just look at their technological advancements today. And this also has an impact on the automotive industry.
You would likely agree if the writer were to say that vehicles from China can no longer be underestimated. They are now serious in the industry, striving to be the best, and developing rapidly.
For example, look at the mobile phone industry. Apart from their own brands, there are leading global brands that have opened manufacturing plants in China. Are the quality of their products different from those produced in other countries?
If you are truly interested in vehicles like the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, brand perception is indeed something you cannot avoid.
Ehem, Proton X90, how is it?
Oh yes, when talking about the Tiggo 8 Pro, you can’t avoid discussing the Proton X90 as well. The prices are quite close, ranging from RM123,800 for the Standard to RM152,800 for the Flagship.
The engines are different, with the X90 having a 1.5-liter turbo direct-injection (TGDI) powertrain with a hybrid system, while the Tiggo 8 Pro has a 2.0-liter turbo. Of course, the outputs are different, with the X90 at 177hp and 255Nm, while the Tiggo 8 Pro offers 257hp and 390Nm of torque.
Both SUVs are in the same segment, similar in size, and both can accommodate seven passengers.
Which one to choose? In terms of design, the writer finds the Tiggo 8 Pro to be more stylish overall and with more attractive details. However, you certainly get better value for the X90, as its price is lower due to its national car status (even though both SUVs are designed and developed in China).
Okay, the X90 may not be 100 percent developed in China, as Proton engineers have provided input for the suspension tuning. This is why the Proton X90 has a multi-link rear suspension compared to the Geely Haoyue.
The X90 also benefits from lower road tax, but if you need power and frequently carry many passengers, you might be willing to spend more and choose the Tiggo 8 Pro.
Solid and high-quality feel
Even more enticing, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro feels very solid, sturdy, and high-quality. Whether examining the exterior details, simply sitting inside the cabin, or driving it, all these aspects give you a premium feeling.
For example, on the exterior, there is an illuminated front logo, automatic side steps as mentioned earlier, and just the right amount of chrome trim, not excessive. The cabin is spacious and the front seats are very comfortable. The first time the writer sat in the driver’s seat of the Tiggo 8 Pro, it felt like being in a car that costs twice as much.
Then, the high dashboard and center console reinforce the premium feel of this SUV. At the same time, all buttons and switches are easily accessible. As for driving, the writer felt that it has more than enough power for daily driving. The writer gained good confidence in handling this Chery Tiggo 8 Pro even on sharp corners.
Only the steering wheel feels a bit light, but the gas pedal and transmission are all quite responsive and have good tuning. In terms of fuel consumption, the writer recorded around 9.9km per liter, considered very good considering the size and driving style of the Tiggo 8 Pro.
Of course, such fuel consumption is not very suitable for daily city driving, unless you can afford it. But it is perfect for taking the family on weekend outings outside the city. Overall, the package offered by the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is quite appealing with a combination of size, features, and price. This makes the writer excited to see the future Chery models. Perhaps we will also test drive the recently launched Tiggo 7 Pro.

The accomplishment achieved within just 8 months of commencing operations at Inokom’s state-of-the-art 200-acre facility in Kulim, Kedah, underscores Chery Auto Malaysia’s commitment to growth and excellence in the local automotive industry.
Chery Auto Malaysia and Inokom Corporation formalised their partnership in May 2023 and the first batch of the locally assembled OMODA 5 and TIGGO 8 PRO were delivered in August the same year.
Chery’s soon-to-be launched TIGGO 7 PRO has also commenced assembly at the plant this month with the brand’s all-electric vehicle, the OMODA E5 to join the line-up soon.
With the increasing demand and favourable market reception, Chery Auto Malaysia is enhancing its operations by introducing a second assembly line to increase production efficiency at the plant.
The expansion will boost assembly capacity and better meet the growing needs of Malaysian consumers while also upholding the highest standards of quality control for its products and services.

BESIDES the Omoda 7, Chery also introduced its flagship SUV model, the Tiggo 9 PHEV, at the Auto China 2024.
Looks-wise, the Tiggo 9 PHEV is evidently not a huge departure to h0w the Tiggo 8 Pro looks like, but as a flagship model in its lineup, it has a bigger footprint.
It measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, 1,741 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm, making it 88 mm longer, 65 mm wider, and 36 mm higher than the Tiggo 8 Pro.
There are also some design elements that help the Tiggo 9 PHEV stand out including the Saturn Ring hexagon grille, dynamic body lines, and 20-inch multi-spoke wheels.
Inside, the unit showcased in Beijing features two-tone cream and blue leather upholstery, as well as 3D stitching on the seats. It is equipped with a digital instrument panel and a 15.6-inch HD 2.5K touch display.
The ‘heart’ of the Tiggo 9 PHEV is the 2.0-litre turbo engine pumping out 235 hp and 385 Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine is combined with a 3DHT electric motor that provides an additional 221 hp.
The ICE-electric motor combo results in a fuel consumption level of around 5.2 liters per 100 km based on the WLTC cycle and a driving range of up to 1,400 km.
In addition to the PHEV, the Tiggo 9 will also have a petrol variant, but details regarding this variant have not yet been announced. Both will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.
CHERY has introduced its second global model, the Omoda 7, at its headquarters in Wuhu, located approximately 1,100 km from Beijing where the Auto China 2024 was held.
Much like the Omoda 5, the Omoda 7 is also an SUV, and according to Chery, it will be launched in the market early next year.
In terms of size, the Omoda 7 has a larger footprint than the Omoda 5, with a length of 4,621 mm, width of 1,872 mm, height of 1,673 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
Being the smaller stablemate, the latter has a length of 4,400 mm, width of 1,830 mm, height of 1,588 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,630 mm.
Back to the Omoda 7, Chery says it adopts a “Stylish 360°” design language, which features a low-slung posture and a sophisticated fastback silhouette to appeal to the younger demographic.
Some of the notable design elements include a parametric grille with a hexagonal pattern, a two-tone colour scheme, and a sharp taillight design featuring an “Electric Energy” graphic.
Inside, you will find a steering wheel designed based on the PlayStation 5 controller and a 15.6-inch screen that can slide from the centre console towards the front passenger.
Meanwhile, its seats are inspired by gaming chairs and wrapped in nubuck leather. Other niceties include a 12+2 speaker audio system that offers a concert hall-like audio experience, a four-zone voice command function, a smart fragrance system, and noise cancellation (ENC) technology.
Powering the Omoda 7 is a TGDi 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a plug-in hybrid system. Technical details such as power and torque were not disclosed, but according to Chery, this powertrain offers an “extreme energy saving” mode, allowing it to achieve a driving range of up to 1,200 km on a full tank and battery.
The driver assistance and safety features include ADAS with 18 features, Auto Parking, and six airbags. The SUV is also said to have a torsional stiffness of 25,000 N·m/degree.
CHERY Auto Malaysia has confirmed that the Tiggo 7 Pro will be launched in the local market by the end of May, with an estimated price of below RM130,000.
The C-segment SUV, which will compete with the likes of the Proton X70 and the Honda CR-V, is now open for bookings and will be showcased at Chery showrooms nationwide starting this April.
As previously reported, the Tiggo 7 Pro is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 197 PS and 290 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission tasked to drive the front wheels.
Interestingly, during its business briefing event held in January, Chery claimed that the Tiggo 7 Pro is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. However, the specifications shared recently stated a significantly different century sprint time of 9.5 seconds. We will seek clarification from Chery regarding this matter.
Additionally, the model is said to be capable of reaching a maximum speed of 205 km/h. The company also claims a fuel economy of 7.0 litres per 100 km.
In terms of features, the Tiggo 7 Pro will come equipped with LED headlights and taillights, sequential turn signals, diamond-like inserts on the grille, and two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, you will find leatherette upholstery, a 24.6-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50W wireless charger, a multi-colour ambient lighting system and a Sony audio system with eight speakers.
Additionally, there are USB Type-A and Type-C ports, a panoramic sunroof, Remote Engine Start, Walk Away Auto Lock, and three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.
In terms of safety, the Tiggo 7 Pro comes with ADAS 2.5 safety suite, which includes features such as:

CHERY Malaysia announced that it has recently signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
Carsome and Carsome Academy.
The primary focus of these partnerships is to revolutionise vehicle trade-ins and enhance soft skills within the brand’s network of representatives.
Carsome is making the process seamless for new Chery customers walking into their showroom. Upon opting for a trade-in, customers can have Carsome conduct a vehicle inspection at their preferred location.
Following the inspection, Carsome will promptly offer a price for the trade-in vehicle. Once the offer is accepted, customers can then hand over their old vehicle before or while collecting their new Chery vehicle.
Carsome also threw in a special campaign to Chery dealers by offering an additional RM500 on top of the trade-in offer price for their customers who trade in their vehicles from 15 January to 15 February 2024.
