The automotive company Proton has announced a comprehensive support initiative for residents and victims of the gas pipeline fire incident in Putra Heights that occurred on the morning of April 1.
A total of RM250,000 has been allocated to address the immediate needs of residents who have lost their homes, including those placed in several temporary evacuation centers (PPS).
Proton has also established six service centers in the nearby area to offer a thorough free vehicle assessment program, in addition to assisting with insurance claims for all Proton brand vehicles affected by the unfortunate incident.
This service aims to assess the extent of damage in detail and provide owners with a clear pathway for the repair and recovery of affected vehicles.

Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad (EON) has provided 62 vehicles for the use of victims of the Putra Heights incident for one month without any charges.
The donation consists of 40 vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, and multipurpose vehicles from EON’s retail brands, such as Proton, Mitsubishi, and Volkswagen, as well as from EON’s vehicle rental subsidiary, Avis Malaysia.
In addition, 22 units of vehicles consisting of pickup trucks, including four units of electric vehicles (EV) from the smart brand are also provided for the use of government agencies and organizations that provide assistance to the victims.
EON’s Chief Executive Officer, Akkbar Danial, stated, “Many families not only lost their homes but also lost their primary means of transportation due to the fire incident.”
“As the largest multi-brand vehicle distributor in the country, EON feels grateful to be in a position to provide some relief during this difficult time.”
“On behalf of EON Group, I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all the affected victims. We pray for the speedy recovery of those who have been injured, and hope that all those impacted have the strength, courage, and support needed to rebuild their lives.”
He, who is also the head of the automotive distribution unit at DRB-HICOM, added, “For the time being, EON will provide vehicles to the affected victims and NGOs at no charge for one month. This assistance may be extended depending on specific needs.”
Akkbar also expressed gratitude to the Office of the Chief Minister of Selangor, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council for supporting EON in this initiative and urged various parties to take immediate action to ensure the welfare of the local community following this unfortunate incident.
The Nissan LEAF battery electric vehicle has been on the global market since 2010 and has endured through two generations in a hatchback body style.
However, for the third generation, the Nissan LEAF has been redesigned as a crossover to align with the market demand, which leans more towards larger-bodied models.
Built on the CMF-EV platform owned by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, the new LEAF features increased overall dimensions, though it is slightly shorter compared to the existing LEAF.
From the showcased design, it is evident that the LEAF borrows many styling elements from the Ariya EV and boasts a drag coefficient of 0.25.
Nissan has not disclosed further specifications for the LEAF.
However, according to Nissan Europe’s product chief, Francois Bailly, the new LEAF is capable of offering a real-world driving range exceeding 598 km.
He added that the LEAF will also receive the latest Google-based infotainment system, complemented by advanced driver assistance systems.

Recently, MForce Bike Holdings confirmed that it will launch a new adventure-style scooter, the SYM ADXTG 400 by mid-year.
In terms of appearance, the aggressive and angular design of the SYM ADXTG 400 is inspired by prehistoric tigers.

Pilot testing of the Automatic Awareness Safety System (AWAS) using point-to-point methods will be implemented by June, reported Berita Harian.
This method will be used to detect drivers who exceed speed limits by measuring the duration and distance traveled, in addition to using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Initially, two highway locations will be selected for this pilot project: the route from Genting Sempah Tunnel to Gombak Rest Stop (KL-Karak Highway), and from Senawang Toll Plaza to Simpang Ampat Toll Plaza (North-South Highway).
The system will also be installed at locations where accidents frequently occur, such as the route from Menora Tunnel to Sungai Perak Rest Stop.
In an interview with Berita Harian, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport (MOT), Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan, stated that the system can detect drivers who violate speed limits if they arrive at their destination quicker than the estimated time.
“This system, installed at toll plazas, will record travel time based on distance.
“For example, if a driver travels from Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur to Tanjung Malim, Perak, and arrives earlier than expected, the vehicle’s license plate will be detected and an automatic summons will be issued,” he said.
With the help of AI, this system can detect how long a driver stops at any location to extend their travel time to avoid detection.
He also mentioned that a company has been appointed to handle the proof-of-concept (POC) process without incurring financial impacts on the government.
Previously, Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed that the AWAS camera system would be enhanced with the point-to-point method compared to the static method implemented earlier.
This is because the implementation of the AWAS cameras at present is seen as not achieving the goal of reducing vehicle speed and minimizing accident risks.
In less than a month after the launch of the latest Jaecoo J7 PHEV model, another model is set to be launched soon – the Jaecoo J8.
Previewed earlier in 2024, the Jaecoo J8 is now on public display at One Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya from March 27-30.
The Jaecoo J8 has the following dimensions: 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,699 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
Thanks to its relatively long dimensions, the Jaecoo J8 is available in two configurations: two rows (five seats) or three rows (six seats).

The cabin layout is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, featuring twin 12.3-inch screens and a panoramic sunroof.
The Jaecoo J8 2WD includes a 540-degree camera system, a Sony audio system with 12 speakers, and a cargo space of 738 liters.
The AWD version upgrades to a Sony audio system with 14 speakers, 10 airbags, an automatic fragrance system, NFC-based key system, power-adjustable first and second-row seats, ventilation for the driver, and leather and suede trim in the cabin.
The J8 AWD offers a significantly smaller cargo space of 200 liters, in contrast to the 2WD version.
The estimated selling price starts from RM195,000 for the 2WD version and goes up to RM220,000 for the AWD version.

In conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 celebrations, Petron Malaysia, in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), launched the Road Safety Program at the Petron MRR2 station in Selayang.
The objective of this program is to enhance road users’ awareness of the importance of safe driving practices.
According to Shaliza Mohd Sidek, Head of Retail Business at Petron Malaysia, “Safety is indeed an important agenda at Petron. We have conducted specific programs in selected schools and universities, particularly in areas with high rates of road accidents and fatalities, to foster a more caring and responsible attitude among new drivers and riders.”

However, do not celebrate too soon, as the two units of the Peugeot 408 handed over by Peugeot Malaysia are merely on loan to PDRM for real-world evaluation purposes.

At the 41st Osaka Motorcycle Show 2025 held at INTEX Osaka, Honda showcased the CB1000F Concept for the first time.
Although it is still designated as a concept, the design of the Honda CB1000F suggests that it is ready for mass production.
It also reminds us of the CB-F Concept design presented five years ago.
However, unlike the CB-F, which was built on the CB1000R platform, the CB1000F shares the same chassis as the CB1000 Hornet.
What’s the difference? The CB1000F features a steel frame and a twin-sided swingarm, compared to the CB-F, which uses an aluminum frame and a single-sided swingarm.
Additionally, the CB1000F is equipped with a 150 hp inline-four engine derived from the Fireblade, along with Showa SFF-BP front forks and Nissin brakes, which are also found on the Hornet model.
The Honda CB1000F also boasts a new subframe designed to fit its retro proportions, complemented by a large chrome exhaust canister.

First revealed in November last year, Toyota Gazoo Racing has officially announced the sales of the GR Supra A90 Final Edition for the Japanese market.
Only 300 units of this Final Edition model will be produced, with 150 units allocated for the Land of the Rising Sun, and the remaining units will be sold in the European market.
What makes the GR Supra A90 Final Edition particularly special is the standard features it offers directly from the factory, compared to the regular GR Supra model.
In terms of performance, the GR Supra A90 Final Edition is equipped with a B58 engine that has been upgraded to deliver 441 PS and 571 Nm of torque, compared to the standard 387 PS and 500 Nm.
Toyota has also optimized the intake and cooling systems, culminating in a titanium Akrapovic exhaust unit.

The Proton e.MAS7 has been chosen as the official vehicle for AUD 2025, symbolizing Malaysia’s commitment to electric mobility and supporting the national EV agenda and broader ASEAN sustainability goals.
Two main routes have been planned:
Northern Route: Starting in Hanoi, Vietnam, passing through Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand before arriving in Malaysia.

Mitsubishi Motors has just launched the new XForce HEV variant, featuring the same hybrid engine setup found in the Xpander HEV MPV.
This e:Motion powertrain includes an electric motor capable of generating 116 hp and 255 Nm of torque, complemented by a re-tuned 1.6-liter Atkinson cycle engine (4A92) that produces 107 hp and 134 Nm of torque.
According to Mitsubishi, the XForce HEV boasts a newly developed two-speed transaxle, along with a function that disconnects the electric motor from the drive axle at high speeds.
This new feature aims to reduce energy loss while contributing to a fuel consumption rate of 24.4 km/liter (4.1 liters/100 km).
Similar to modern hybrid systems available on the market, the XForce HEV also provides an EV driving mode.
Additionally, there are other driving modes including Normal, Wet, Gravel, Tarmac, Mud, and a special EV Charge mode that can be used to recharge the battery.
Visually, there are not many differences between the XForce HEV and the ICE variant, apart from the presence of the HEV badge with blue accents, clear-lens rear lights, and the word “XFORCE” on the engine hood.
Furthermore, it features aerodynamic 18-inch alloy wheels and sits lower (183 mm) compared to the standard XForce (222 mm).
Inside the cabin, there is an 8-inch digital display and a 12.3-inch Display Audio screen integrated into a single panel, followed by a premium Yamaha audio system with eight speakers and connectivity to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance, has announced the organization of the Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia for the second consecutive year, aimed at young talents.
There are three age categories in which sim racers aged 10 to 24 years old are eligible to participate in this challenge.
Three knockout rounds will determine the fastest racers who qualify for the next round, with the final round taking place concurrently with the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia race on June 8, 2025.

CFMoto Malaysia has just launched its latest adventure touring machine, the 700MT, for the Malaysian market, with a price tag of RM33,888 (excluding insurance, road tax, and registration).

Boon Siew Honda has announced the release of the CBR150R featuring a new Honda Tricolor color scheme, inspired by the racing DNA present in the CBR1000RR-R, CBR650R, and CBR250RR.
