Tamiya chairman Shunsaku Tamiya dies at 90
Tamiya Corporation announced the passing of its chairman, Shunsaku Tamiya, who was 90 years old, on July 18.
The sad news was shared via Tamiya’s official Facebook page.
The company also confirmed that a private funeral ceremony had been held in accordance with the wishes of the late chairman.
Born on December 19, 1934, Shunsaku Tamiya joined the company in 1958 after graduating from Waseda University.
He subsequently held various important positions within Tamiya before being appointed chairman and president of Tamiya Corporation in 2009.
As we all know, Tamiya is a significant entity in shaping the world of scale models and remote-controlled (RC) cars.
Tamiya began as a manufacturer of wooden airplane and ship models before transitioning to plastic model production.
The first plastic model released by Tamiya was the 1:800 scale battleship Yamato, followed by various tank models, real car model kits, mini four-wheel-drive vehicles, and remote-controlled cars.
Someone who loves driving manual cars but prefers riding an automatic scooter. Maybe it's an age thing.
